Acceptable Conditions is the final submission for my Major Studio 1 class at The New School. Thanks to my faculty and friends for their guidance and support.

‘Acceptable Conditions’ is an experimental approach to collecting people’s feelings about digital services.

The following screen will show combinations of proposed services and potential information costs. Both are randomly generated. The benefits are constructed from a dictionary of language from startups and algorithmic filters. The costs are made of potential actions and predictive analyses that can be constructed from data. Both can be exceptionally confusing, but are intended to reflect the strange ways machines are told to mix and produce insight from existing information. A user may approve or reject these services as they see fit. Up to ten may be selected and the intensity of the information collection increases as a user selects options.

This proposed method can be used to both teach people about the types of data manipulations that exist as well as gather their feelings about potential service’s worth compared to its cost. Such a collection can be used for Data Rights activism and potentially as the basis of research for a Bill of Data Rights.

*it remains here in its final state as a prototype*
