Behold!

Language is confusing. We claim to all use the same words, but what do we even mean? Behold! encourages us to create our own symbols and compare them with others to find who is like us and who could understand us.

If told to think about a cat, the image conjured to mind is different for every person. Sure, we may all think of the whiskers, the head, the eyes, the tail, and the body, but how are they in the moment? Are they resting? Jumping? Pouncing? These often unspoken differences exist whenever we are talking to one another about everyday things. Yet their mental nature makes them paradoxically difficult to talk about. Using tangrams to give these differences a physical shape, Behold! offers a way to do that. Playing Behold! is to identify and celebrate the differences in thought of the players. Behold! seeks to demonstrate these differences through play, and is a framework for revealing those little nuances between us. During a game of Behold! it is my hope that you will be able to find unexpected commonalities with new friends and delightful surprises with close company.
